PROJECTS

Here at The Muddy Pond, we are dedicated to investigating human right violations with the goal of driving meaningful policy change. Through rigorous research and in-depth studies, we work to expose injustices and hold those in power accountable. Our mission is rooted in empowering individuals by equipping them with the knowledge and resources needed to advocate for their rights, as well as the rights of their families, friends, and communities. By shining a light on critical issues and amplifying marginalized voices, we strive to create a more just and equitable society where everyone has the tools to defend and uphold their rights.

Below are a few of our current projects:

01

Housing Pathways for Vulnerable Youth

We are investigating the challenges young people face when forced to live with individuals struggling with substance abuse, focusing on the gaps in housing policies that expose these youth to unsafe environments.

02

Suicide Rates Among Ethiopian and Eritrean Refugees in Europe

This project aims to understand the alarming rates of suicide among Ethiopian and Eritrean refugees and asylum seekers across Europe, with the goal of identifying risk factors and recommending mental health interventions to support these communities.

03

Threats to Ethiopian Smallholder Farmers:

We are examining the pressures faced by smallholder farmers in Ethiopia, particularly in relation to land rights, displacement, and economic vulnerability, to advocate for policies that protect their livelihoods and support sustainable farming practices.

04

Local Authorities’ Management of Temporary Emergency Accommodation for Families

This project explores the handling of families placed in temporary emergency accommodation by local authorities, examining issues like inadequate facilities, overcrowding, and prolonged stays. We seek to advocate for improved standards that ensure families have safe, dignified, and supportive housing.
